Who we are

Last updated:

Albert Street is an independent information portal about new housing developments and local planning across the UK. We publish guides for people navigating planning applications, understanding development proposals in their area and engaging with the consultation process.

What we cover

The portal addresses the questions people ask when a housing scheme is proposed nearby or when they want to understand how the planning system works. Our guides explain how to read a planning application, what happens during a consultation period and how to submit a response that planning officers will read.

We write about the stages of a development — from initial proposals to approval, appeal and construction. Other sections cover what a local plan is, how infrastructure requirements are decided and what happens when conditions are attached to planning permission.

Who reads this site

Readers come to the portal when they receive a site notice, hear about a scheme from a neighbour or want to know whether a development will affect their street. Some arrive after a planning committee meeting, looking for what happens next. Others are researching the process before a consultation opens.

The guides are written for people without prior knowledge of planning law or local government procedure. We explain terms as they appear and describe processes in the order a person encounters them.

How content is researched

Each guide begins with the questions people search for. Answers are drawn from publicly available planning guidance, legislation and local authority procedures, then written in plain English. Where a process varies between councils, we describe the common structure and note where local rules differ.

Pages are updated when legislation changes or when a reader points out an error. No guide claims to cover every scenario — planning decisions are made case by case, and our role is to explain the framework, not to predict an outcome.

What we do not provide

The portal does not give personal advice on individual planning matters. We do not represent applicants, councils or campaign groups, and we publish no sponsored content or ranked lists. Albert Street is an information resource, not a consultancy, law firm or planning service.
